AGAPE LESSON 31
THERE IS POWER IN DECLARING
(The word of God)
Put together by Bongie Kuzwayo
[Jeremiah50v2] Declare among the nations, proclaim, and set up a standard; proclaim—do not
conceal it—say, “Babylon is taken, Bel is shamed. Her idols are humiliated, her images are broken
in pieces,”
[Jeremiah51v61—62] Then Jeremiah said to Seraiah, “When you arrive in Babylon and see it, and
read all these words, (62) then you shall say, ‘O Lord, You have spoken against this place to cut it off,
so that none shall remain in it, neither man nor beast, but it shall be desolate forever.’”
[Psalm45v1] My heart is overflowing with a good theme; I recite a composition concerning the King;
my tongue is a pen of a ready writer.
The Psalmist here (from the sons of Korah) declares that his tongue is anointed to recite the
composition that is overflowing in his heart – the glories of the Messiah and His Bride.
[Genesis1v3] Then God said, “Let there be Light”, and there was Light.
When God created all things, He spoke things into being; that is, He decreed, and it was. We are
created in His image and likeness; and therefore, we are able to create by pronouncing things.
[Isaiah51v16] And I have put My words in your mouth; I have covered you with the shadow of My
hand, that I may plant the heavens, lay the foundations of the earth, and say to Zion, “You are My
people.”
In this Scripture above, we must realize that God is giving us this latitude to co-work with Him and
create. He has given us His word which does not return to Him void. And His word is living and
powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit,
and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart
(Hebrews4v12). He wants to take what we say and create for us whatever we decree.
[Psalm103v20] (NKJV) Bless the Lord, you His angels, who excel in strength, who do His word,
heeding the voice of His word. (KJV) Bless the Lord, ye His angels that excel in strength, hearkening
unto the voice of His word.
• Bless (barak in Hebrew) – to cause to kneel.
• Lord – Jehovah (the existing One).
• Angels – messengers, representatives = that are dispatched as deputy.
• Excel – prevail – have strength
• Who do His biding – they accomplish, advance the command or utterance/speech/word.
• Hearkening (shama in Hebrew) – to hear, to perceive by ear, to hear with attention or
interest – to give heed – to hear intelligently.
• Heeding/hearkening the voice of His word – they respond to the voice of His word. We are to
give voice to the written word.
God has also given us angels to serve us (Psalm104v4) Who makes His angels spirits, His ministers a
flaming fire. [Hebrews1v14] Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister to those who
2
will inherit salvation? He assigns them to respond and perform His word as they heed the voice of
His word.
God does not forget. He will remember and perform what you decreed/pronounced/declared.
After anointing a pillar – [Genesis28v20] Then Jacob made a vow, saying, “If God will be with me,
and keep me in this way that I am going, and give me bread to eat and clothing to put on, (21) so
that I come back to my father’s house in peace, then God shall be my God.”
[Genesis31v11, v13] Then the angel of God spoke to me in a dream, saying, “Jacob.” And I said, ‘Here
I am.’ (13) “I am the God of Bethel, where you anointed a pillar and where you made a vow to Me.
Now arise and get out of this land, and return to the land of your family.”
You realize that God sent an angel to minister to Jacob.
[Proverbs18v21] Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.
Words are seeds – they produce after their kind. A spoken word will not lose character until it
performs.
It was, and is God’s intent that we be kings and priests unto Him. [Exodus19v5—6] Now therefore, if
you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me
above all people; for all the earth is Mine. (6) And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a
holy nation. These are the words you shall speak to the children of Israel. [Revelation5v9—10] And
they sang a new song, saying, “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals; for You were
slain and have redeemed us to God by Your blood out of every tribe and tongue and people and
nation, (10) and have made us kings and priests to our God; and we shall reign on the earth.”
We are kings, that is who we are; and Christ is the King of kings. We are to take our position as kings
and rule in the midst of our enemies. We are to learn to decree over situations. The dominion
mandate that was given to Adam (humanity) is now in the hands of the church; that is us. And
dominion is given to mature sons. It is imperative that we grow up quickly.
[1Samuel17v45] Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and
with a javelin. But I come to you with the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel,
whom you have defiled. (46) This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you
and take your head from you. This day I will give the carcases of the camp of the Philistines to the
birds of the air, and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in
Israel.”
{1Samuel1v17] Then Eli answered and said, “Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant your petition
which you have asked of Him.” Indeed, the Lord remembered Hannah, and granted her, her
petition (1Samuel 1v19).
[1Samuel25v31b] “But when the Lord has dealt well with my Lord, then remember your
maidservant.” Indeed, David did remember Abigail: [1Samuel 25v40—42] When the servants of
David had come to Abigail in Carmel, they spoke to her saying, “David sent us to you, to ask you to
become his wife.” (41) Then she arose, bowed her face to the earth and said, “Here is your
maidservant, a servant to wash the feet of the servants of my Lord.” (42) So Abigail rose in haste and
rode on a donkey, attended by five of her maidens; and she followed the messengers of David.
[1Kings17v1, v14] And Elijah the Tishbite of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab, “As the Lord God
of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be due nor rain these years, except at my word,”
3
According to Elijah’s word, rain only came when Elijah prayed (1Kings18v41—45).
[1Kings17v13—14] And Elijah said her, “Do not fear, go and do as you have said, but make a small
cake from it first, and bring it to me; and afterward make some for yourself and your son. (14) For
thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘The bin of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil run dry,
until the day the Lord sends rain on the earth.’ (16) The bin if flour was not used up, nor did the jar
of oil run dry according to the word of the Lord which He spoke by Elijah.
The Philippian church gave to Paul and he invoked a blessing upon them. [Philippians4v19] And my
God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. (20) Now to our God
and Father be glory forever and ever.
[Romans1v7] To all who are in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace
from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Most of Paul’s letters opened with a salutation of
grace; also, some of his benedictions ended with him invoking grace upon the church.
[1Timothy1v17] Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise, be honour
and glory forever and ever. Amen.
[Mark11v13—14] And seeing from afar a fig tree having leaves, He went to see if perhaps He would
find something on it. When He came to it, He found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for
figs. (14) In response Jesus said to it, “Let no one eat fruit from you ever again.” And His disciples
heard Him. The fig tree withered and dried up from the roots. And because of Peter’s remark Jesus
gave them a lesson of faith. Decreeing things and seeing results goes hand in hand with faith.
[Mark11v22—24] So, Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God. (23) For assuredly I say
to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and, and be cast into the see, and does not
doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says, will be done, he will have whatever he
says. (24) Therefore, I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive
them, and you will have them. The lesson learned is the power of believing spoken words in prayer.
Words are seeds and they produce after their kind. Also, a spoken word never loses character until it
performs.
[Luke13v34—35] “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets, and stones those who are
sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her brood under
her wings, but you were not willing! (35) See, your house is left to you desolate, and assuredly, I say
to you, you shall not see Me until the time comes when you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes on the
name of the Lord!’”
Paul rebuked Bar-Jesus: [Acts13v10—11] – – – -, “O full of deceit and all fraud, you son of the devil,
you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease perverting the straight ways of the Lord? (11) And
now, indeed, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you shall be blind, and not seeing the sun for a
time.” And immediately a dark mist fell on him, and he went around seeking someone to lead him by
the hand.
[Acts3v6] Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give unto you: In the
name of Jesus of Nazareth, rise up and walk.”
You will remember that Jacob stole his brother, Esau’s blessing. Esau cried bitterly. [Genesis38] And
Esau said to his father, “Have you only one blessing, my father? Bless me—me also. O my father!”
And Esau lifted his voice and wept.
4
Esau understood clearly the importance of a pronouncement by a grace carrier, his father.
[Exodus20v12] Honour your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which
the Lord your God is giving you. Honour is a way of tapping into the grace that God has locked into
your parents for you.
[Numbers14v28—30, 34] Say to them, as I live, says the Lord, ‘Just as you have spoken in My hearing,
so I will do to you: The carcases of you who have complained against Me shall fall in this wilderness,
all of you who were numbered, according to your entire number, from twenty years old and above.
(30) Except for Caleb for Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun, you shall by no
means enter the land which I swore I would make you dwell in. According to the number of the days
in which you spied the land, forty days, for each day you shall bear your guilt one year, and you shall
know My rejection.
Those who murmured all fell in the wilderness, and it took the congregation forty years to journey to
the promise land.
There is power in a spoken word and the pronouncements from God’s word, do not return to Him
void.
