AGAPE LESSON 34
THE POWER OF SEED
Put together by Bongie Kuzwayo
[Genesis 1v11—12, 29] Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed
according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind, on the
earth”, and it was so. (12) And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed according to
its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it
was good. (29) And God said, “I have given you every herb that yields seed which Ais on the face of the
earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed, to you it shall be for food.
Seed [zara (zaw-rah) in Hebrew] = a sowing, seed, — of moral quality – a practitioner of
righteousness, (figuratively) sowing time.
God infused resurrection power and eternity into every seed, and instituted Seedtime and Harvest.
[Genesis8v22] “While the earth remains, seed time and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer,
and day and night shall not cease.”
When God created the first living thing, He gave it the ability to grow and multiply through the
principle of seed. Your life began with a principle of seed. Your journey in God began with the Seed of
Christ deposited into the womb of your spirit. Every act of your life, since birth has operated with the
same principle. Money and material possessions are not the only seeds in your hand – your words are
seeds, behaviour and more.
When seed is sown into the soil it enters rest, that is a time of its sabbath. when the conditions are
conducive, the seed in the ground dies and resurrection power kicks in; and it geminates and comes
back to life. Seed will break every limitation/curse – it is unstoppable; and the expected result
depends entirely on the type of seed and the soil – the condition of your heart also comes into play.
• Selflessly – [The churches in Macedonia who first gave themselves before giving their
offering; and gave in the midst of their poverty (2Corinthians8v1—5)]
• Sparingly — stingy
• Grudgingly – [Pharisees tithing mint and rue (Luke11v42].
• In faith – [Hannah vowed and sowed her son, Samuel, even before conception (1Samuel
1v11)].
• Lavishly – [the woman who broke the alabaster flask to empty all the contents, to anoint
Jesus: (Mark14v3)].
• Honourably – [the wise men from the East who came to honour the New-born King
(Matthew2)]
• Carelessly – [casting pearls before swine (Matthew7v6)]
• Generously – [David, sowing material for building the temple (1Chronicles 29v2—5)]
• Wisely – (Ruth who would not be dessuaded from following Naomi, her mother-in-law
(Ruth1v16—17)]
• Tirelessly – Paul who poured out his life like a drink offering.
• Carefully – [Woman of Shunem who after observing Elisha, persuaded her husband that they
build him an upper room (2Kings4v8—10)
• In brokenness – Psalm126v5
• Sacrificially – [like the poor widow who gave her last two mites (Mark12v41—44)]

[Ecclesiastes 11v1—10] Cast your bread upon the waters, for you will find it after many days. (2) Give
a serving to seven, and also to eight, for you do not know what evil will be on the earth. (3) If the
clouds are full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth; and if a tree falls to the south or north,
in a place where the tree falls, there it shall lie. (4) He who observes the wind will not sow, and he
who regards the clouds will not reap. (5) As you do not know what is the way of the wind, or how the
bones grow in the womb of her who is with child, so you do not know the works of God who makes
everything. (6) In the morning sow your seed, and in the evening do not withhold your hand; for you
do not know which will prosper. Either this or that, or whether both alike will be good. (7) Truly the
light is sweet, and it is pleasant for the eyes to behold the sun; (8) but if a man lives many years and
rejoices in them all, yet let him remember the days of darkness, for they will be many. All that is vanity.
(9) Rejoice, O young man, in your youth and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth; walk in
the ways of your heart, and in the sight of your eyes; but know that for all these God will bring you
into judgement. (10) Therefore, remove sorrow from your heart, and put away evil from your flesh, for
childhood and youth are vanity.
(v1) Cast your bread upon the waters, for you will find it after many days.
• Cast (shalach in Hebrew) = to extend, to direct, to let loose. [Psalm112v9] He has dispersed
abroad he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever; his horn will be exalted
with honour. (10) The wicked will see it and be grieved; he will gnash his teeth and melt
away; the desire of the wicked shall perish.
• Bread signifies the proceeding word, or a fresh or a new word.
[Luke4v4] But He answered, and said, “It is written, man shall not live by bread alone, but by every
word that proceeds from the mouth of God”.
Bread = Christ the Bread of life.
[John6v35] And Jesus said to them, “I am the Bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger,
and he who believes in Me shall never thirst”.
• Waters in this case signify the masses/the nations/all creation. [Mark 16v15] And He said to
them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.”
The dominion mandate that was given the to the original family, is now in the hands of the church.
[Genesis1v28] Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth
and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every
living thing that moves on the earth.” We, the church, have to multiply the image and the likeness
of God.
* You will find it after many days. The end of many days is when Jesus returns, we will all give
account; and be rewarded for our service to mankind/all creation. [1Thessalonians2v19—20] For
what is our hope, or joy. or crown of rejoicing? Is it not even you in the presence of our Lord Jesus
Christ at His coming?
(2) Give serving to seven and also to eight.
* Seven signifies divine completion and perfection. This speaks of giving your all as serving the Lord.
We no longer live for ourselves, but for Him who died for us and rose again (2Corinthians5v15). When
God gives, He gives a hundred percent. When you received the seed of Christ into the womb of your
spirit, you received the whole of God; Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. When Abraham was
3
commanded to go sacrifice his son, it was the whole of Isaac, and not just a fraction. The churches of
Macedonia first gave themselves to the Lord, and then to Paul and his team (2Corinthians8v5).
Eight is a number signifying resurrection power, new beginning and of covenant. God infused
resurrection power into every seed (Genesis 1v11—12). So, sowing seed is a never-ending activity.
Sharing the message of hope (the gospel) to those oppressed by fear and doubt is a lifetime
assignment for every believer. The souls of people out there are dead in trespasses (Ephesians2v1).
The souls are regenerated when they embrace the message of the kingdom. Their spirits are
resurrected to new life. [2Corinthians5v17] Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old
things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
Every male child in Israel was to be circumcised on the eighth day as covenant with the Living God
(Genesis 17v10—14). David refers to Goliath as an uncircumcised Philistine who defies the armies of
the Living God (1Samuel 17v26).
(3) If the clouds (spirit realm) are full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth.
Clouds speak of hope and the spirit realm. Jude warns the church of certain man who crept into the
church unnoticed; he calls them ‘clouds without water.’ (Jude1v4, 12).
I also see clouds as messengers of hope, having received rain/revelation will disseminate within their
sphere of influence; will water the earth, which speaks of people around us. Remember we are
interface between heaven and earth.
[Isaiah61v1—4] The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, because the Lord has anointed Me to preach
good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the
captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; (2) to proclaim the acceptable year
of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn, (3) to console those who
mourn in Zion, to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for
the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord , that
He may be glorified. (4) And they shall rebuild the old ruins, they shall raise up the former
desolations, and they shall repair the ruined cities, the desolation of many generations.
When the clouds reach saturation point, rain/revelation/blessings are inevitable. Cornelius’ prayers
and alms to the poor of Israel, were so much that God had to do something and do it quickly. He sent
an angel to give him an urgent message.
[Acts 10v4b–5] Your prayers and your alms have come up for a memorial before God. (5) Now send
man to Joppa, and send for Simon whose surname is Peter. [Hebrews 11v6] But without faith it is
impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a
Rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
– – – -, in the place where the tree falls, there it shall lie = the seed will sure produce after its kind.
[Matthew12v33, 35] Either make a tree good and its fruit good, or else make the tree bad and its
fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit. (35) A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings
forth good things, and an evil man out of his evil treasure brings forth evil things.
(4) – – – observes the wind, – – – regards the clouds. This one is paralysed by unbelief; the doctrine of
the Pharisees who were resisting Jesus’ message and did not believe He was the Messiah sent from
God. [Mark6v3] Is this not the carpenter, the Son of Mary, and brother of James and Joses, Judas,
and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us? So, they were offended at Him.
4
This one will never take a risk. Esther said, “If I perish, I perish.” (Esther4v16). Her risking brought
about the deliverance of the Jews from Haman, the enemy of the Jews. This one’s language is, “What
if?” He lives in a world of fantasy, and will not reach out to sow seed. He depends on his discretion
(like Samson), and is crafting his own destiny.
(V5) – – – -, so you do not know the works of God who makes everything. God’s sovereignty cannot be
challenged, He orchestrates all things. [Job9v10] He does great things past finding out, yes, wonders
without number. The return of the sown seed and how it grows is left entirely in the hands of the
Almighty God. [Mark4v28] For the earth yields crops by itself: first the blade, then the head, after
that the full grain in the head.
(6) In the morning sow seed, and in the evening do not withhold your hand.
‘In the morning’ = time when things are going well.
‘In the evening’ = tough times.
Throughout your lifetime, conscious sowing of seed should be part of your fabric. [Psalm126v5—6]
Those who sow in tears shall reap in joy. (6) He who continually goes forth weeping, bearing seed for
sowing, shall doubtless come again rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.
Sowing in tears speak of brokenness. Planting of seeds of prayer accompanied by a spirit of
brokenness will not only bring a spiritual harvest, but will leave the sower with the spirit of rejoicing,
7) Truly the light is sweet, and it is pleasant for the eyes to behold the sun. Light comes with
opportunities for everyone.
(8) If a man lives many years and rejoice in them all, yet let him remember the days of darkness, for
they will be many. There is no point in slowing down when you are old. There still is more work to be
done. [1Peter1v13] Therefore, gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon
the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
Elijah was giving up, even wishing to die after his great exploits, killing the prophets of Baal. He had
not finished his assignment yet. [1Kings19v7] The angel of the Lord came back the second time, and
touched him, and said, “Arise and eat, because the journey is too great for you.
(9) God will evaluate every deed including every secret thing, whether good or evil. [Matthew12v34]
But I say to you that for every idle word man may speak, they will give account of it in the day of
judgement. (37) For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.
[Jeremiah17v10] I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, even to give every man according to his
ways, according to the fruit of his doings.
(10) Therefore, remove sorrow from your heart, and put away evil from your flesh.
Refuse to sink into sorrow and regret. Count your blessings because God has done much too much for
us. God calls sorrow evil. Thanksgiving should be our very fabric whatever the circumstance.
[1Thessalonians5v16—19] Rejoice always, (17) Pray without ceasing. (18) In everything give thanks;
for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (19) Do not quench the Spirit.
[Neheniah8v9b, 10b—11] This day is holy to the Lord your God; do not mourn nor weep. (10b) This
day is holy to our Lord. Do not sorrow for the joy of the Lord is your strength. (11) So, the Levites
quieted all the people, saying, “Be still, for the day is holy; do not be grieved.”
5
Seed will break every limitation; it will break every curse and it is unstoppable. Infused in every seed
is resurrection power and eternity.
