AGAPE LESSON 29
HE WILL SURE PERFORM HIS WORD
Put together by Bongie Kuzwayo
[Jeremiah 1v11—12] Moreover the word of the Lord came to me saying, “Jeremiah, what do you
see?” And I said, ‘I see a branch of an almond tree.’ (12) Then the Lord said to me, “You have seen
well, for I am ready to perform my word.”
Almond tree (a symbol of renewal and hope; a symbol of resurrection – first to bud, flower and bear
fruit after winter) = Christ is the first fruit of those who have fallen asleep. For Jeremiah, the almond
tree symbolized moving forward and getting things done speedily.
Branch = the church. [Isaiah 11v1] There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, and a
branch shall grow out of His roots.
JEREMIAH 51: Kindly read to the end. The message from God to the church:
God will defend and save His own by judging Babylon. God will exalt the church. We, the church,
need to know where the finishing line is. Knowing the finishing line will determine what you do today,
to make sure you get there. The name of the game is, “Run with endurance (Hebrews12v1) in order
to finish strong.” Jesus said, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to finish His work
(John4v34). He understood clearly where His finishing line was.
[Micah2v1—2] Now, it shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the Lord’s house
shall be established on top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and peoples shall
flow to it. (2) Many nations shall come and say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to
the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, and we shall walk in His paths.” For out
of Zion the law shall go forth, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
[Isaiah45v22—25] “Look to Me and be saved, all you ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no
other. (23) I have sworn by Myself; the word that is gone out of My mouth in righteousness, and
shall not return, that to Me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall take an oath. (24) He shall
say, ‘’Surely in the Lord I have righteousness and strength.’ To Him men shall come, and shall be
ashamed who are incensed against Him. (25) In the Lord, all the descendants of Israel shall be
justified and shall glory.”
Israel today, speaks of the church.
[Jeremiah 51v59—64] The word which Jeremiah the prophet commanded Seraiah, the son of Neriah,
the son of Maseiah, when He went with Zedekiah the king of Judah to Babylon in the fourth year of
his reign. And Seraiah was the quartermaster. (60) So, Jeremiah wrote in a book all the evil that
would come upon Babylon, all these words that are written against Babylon. (61) And Jeremiah said
to Seraiah, “When you arrive in Babylon and see it, and read all these words, (62) then you shall
say, ‘O Lord, You have spoken against this place to cut it off, so that none shall remain in it, neither
man nor beast, but it shall be desolate forever. (63) Now it shall be, when you have finished reading
this book, that you shall tie a stone to it and throw it out into the Euphrates. (64) Then you shall say,
“Thus Babylon shall sink and not rise from the catastrophe that I will bring upon her. And they
shall be weary.” Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.
From the above Scripture we realize that God has already judged Babylon. In the realm of the spirit, it
has already happened. We can expect to see the manifestation of what has already been
2
accomplished in the heavenly realm. Remember, a spoken word will never lose character until it
performs.
Babylon (Babel) = confusion by mixing – to mix, mingle, confuse.
Babylon was a geographical location where Judah spent seventy years in captivity. Today, Babylon
speaks of a worldly system, or an inaccurate spiritual position, where the church is trapped
because of:
Greed, materialism, idolatry, ignorance, religion, traditions of man, modernism, humanism,
postmodernism
[Jeremiah51 v5] For Israel is not forsaken, nor Judah by his God, the Lord of hosts, though their land
was filled with sin against the holy One of Israel.” We have an assurance that God will readily pardon
his people.
(Jeremiah51v6) Flee from the midst of Babylon, and everyone save his life! Do not be cut off in her
inequity, for this is the time of the Lord’s vengeance; He shall recompense her. The church is being
admonished to migrate (flee) from:
• Inaccurate position/location
• Babylonian operational system.
(Jeremiah51v11—12) The reason God is judging Babylon is because of the cruelty and evil they have
done to the church (Zion). Jeremiah51v24] “And I will repay Babylon and all the inhabitants of
Chaldea for all the evil they have done in Zion in your sight,” says the Lord. [Zechariah 1v15] “I am
exceedingly angry with the nations at ease; for I was a little angry, and they helped—but with evil
intent.”
(Jeremiah51v20—23) God’s battle-axe is Mount Zion (mature divine sons of God). When God uses His
battle-axe, it will be when the sons of God will be revealed in the earth. Dominion is only given to
mature sons. This is when creation will be delivered from corruption and decay. This is the picture of
a militant and triumphant church. [Romans8v19—22] For the earnest expectation of creation eagerly
waits for the revealing of the sons of God. (20) For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly,
but because of Him who subjected it in hope; (21) because the creation itself also will be delivered
from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. (22) For we know that
the whole creation groans and labours with birth pangs together until now.
Battle-axe = a weapon of war
When God uses us as His battle-axe, it means God has elevated us, the church, to a position of
honour. This is when His glory is seen in us as we represent Him accurately. Now, how do we do this?
By saying what He has already said and ordained. We decree His word as kings, for we are kings. This
is how Kings rule, they decree. God has vested the dominion mandate into the hands of the church.
Let us look at a few examples of the decrees we find in the word of God:
[Numbers13v30] Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, “Let us go up at once and
take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.”
[Numbers14v6—9] But Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, who were among
those who had spied out the land, tore their clothes; (7) and they spoke to the congregation of the
children of Israel, saying: “The land we passed though to spy out is an exceedingly good land. (8) If
3
the Lord delights in us, then He will bring us into this land which flows with milk and honey. (9)
Only do not rebel against the Lord, nor fear the people of the land, for they are our bread; their
protection has departed from them, and the Lord is with us. Do not fear them.”
Possessing the land was already ordained by God. “Send men to spy out the land of Canaan, which I
am giving to the children of Israel.” (Numbers13v1)
[Acts 13v6—12] Now when they had gone through the Island of Paphos, they found a certain
sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew whose name was Bar-Jesus, (7) who was with the proconsul, Sergius
Paulus, an intelligent man. This man called for Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word of
God, But Elymus the sorcerer (for so his name is translated) withstood them, seeking to turn the
proconsul away from the faith. (9) Then Saul, who also is called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit,
looked intently at him and said, “O full of all deceit and all fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of
all righteousness, will you not cease perverting the straight ways of the Lord? (10) And now,
indeed, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you shall be blind not seeing the sun for a time.” And
immediately a dark midst fell on him, and he went around seeking someone to lead him by the hand.
[Acts 27v21—25] But after long abstinence from food, then Paul stood in the midst of them and said,
“Men, you should have listened to me, and not have sailed from Crete and incurred this disaster and
loss. (22) And now I urge you to take heart, for there will be no loss of life among you, but only the
ship. (23) For there stood by me this night the angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve,
(24) saying, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul; you must be brought before Caesar; and indeed, God has
granted you all those who sail with you.’ (25) Therefore, take heart, men, for I believe God that it
will be just as was told me.
All we need to do as the church – (2Chronicles7v14)
• Humble ourselves
• Pray
• Seek His face
• Turn from our wicked ways (flee from Babylon)
The church has/and is doing a lot of praying. Prayer alone will not do. Does the church know the
demands of God in this season? The cloud and pillar of fire keep moving and God keeps speaking. As
long as the dividing walls within the church are still standing, that is proof that the church is deaf and
is not hearing from God. This one is a subject for another time.
God is very ready to turn the tables in favour of the church. [Zechariah1v14—17] So the angel who
spoke with me said to me, “Proclaim saying ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: I am zealous for Jerusalem
and for Zion with great zeal. (15) I am exceedingly angry with the nations at ease; (16) for I was a
little angry, and they helped—but with evil intent.” Therefore, thus says the Lord: “I am returning
to Jerusalem with mercy; My house shall be built in it,” says the Lord of hosts. “And a surveyor’s
line shall be stretched out over Jerusalem.” (17) Again, proclaim saying, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts:
“My cities shall again spread out through prosperity; the Lord will again comfort Zion, and will
again choose Jerusalem.”
[Jeremiah51v20—23] You are My battle-axe and weapons of war: for with you I will break the nation
in pieces; with you I will destroy kingdoms; (21) with you I will break in pieces the horse and the rider;
with you I will break in pieces the chariot and the rider; (22) with you also I will break in pieces man
and woman; with you I will break in pieces old and young; with you I will break in pieces the young
man and the maiden; (23) with you also I will break in pieces the shepherd and the flock; with you I
4
will break in pieces the farmer and his yoke of oxen; and with you I will break in pieces the governors
and rulers.
